Thread veins or Telangiectasias are very common and have many causes, such as, ageing, sun damage, pregnancy, trauma, and certain lifestyle choices i.e alcohol consumption and outdoor pursuits.  They can appear anywhere on the body but are common on the face, nose, cheeks and chin and legs, particularly below the knees and ankles.  Telangiectasias are red, blue or purple linear marks and can vary in length and width.

Spider Naevus are very common on the face and upper chest and are a type of Telangiectasia.  They are given their name as they have a central red papule which radiating capillary legs which take on the appearance of a spiders web.  Spider Naevus can be seen in both adults and children.
